2018 – Present     Gareth Barlow

After securing a two year patronage, I left the advertisng world to concentrate on my art practice. The two years allowed me to create a good body of work that saw me get representation in two fine art galleries in NZ, as well as be named as a finalist in a number of high-profile award shows in NZ and Australia. Now I support myself with a number of disciplines within my practice, including the odd campaign in the commercial art world.

2011 – 2018     Ogilvy – Sydney

Back in Sydney and another Senior Art Directing role working on American Express and a number of high profile clients. I was also the creative lead on the BAT account and oversaw the agencies new branding briefs.

2009 – 2011     GTB – Wellington

My own company. I freelanced mainly around Wellington and was usually called upon for my conceptual and design experience to help on advertising and brand campaigns for some of the capital’s most highly respected agencies.

2008 – 2009     Totem Communications – Wellington

I took on a Senior Designer role to help settle myself back in Wellington after almost 10 years away. My role mainly consisted of brand concept and development, but was also called upon to help them strive for more effective and impactful advertising for their proud list of high-profile and government clients.

2002 – 2008     Singleton Ogilvy & Mather – Sydney

One of Australia’s most respected and successful advertising agencies, I held a Senior Art Director role including Head of Art for the Telstra B2B account – one of the biggest, and sort after accounts in the country.

2000 – 2002     Momentum design – Sydney

A highly regarded design and advertising agency in North Sydney. I held a Senior Designer and Art Director role. I used my skill set to create design and advertising campaigns from the initial concept, through to retouching and finished artwork.

1997 – 2000     Graphic Solutions – Wellington

A well known design agency in its time, I had a Graphic Design role as well as overseeing several designers and mac operators at the front end. As an output bureau it also gave me the opportunity to hone my skills in finished art and retouching.

1988 – 1997     Thumbprint ltd – Wellington

Hired as a Commercial Artist, I was in charge of producing all the artwork for this specialised screenprinting company in the Hutt Valley. It was during my time at Thumbprint I developed my computer skills that eventually saw me outgrow this wonderful little company.
